Uuru Mystic from The Dark Crystal

Uuru Mystic from The Dark Crystal

My last commission for the holidays was a good one, an Uuru Mystic from the classic Jim Henson fantasy epic The Dark Crystal. I wanted to document this one pretty thoroughly and as well as a ton of progress shots I’ll also be posting a timelapse video the entire inking and coloring process shortly.

Lady Vader

Lady Vader

I’ve’ spent the last few days trapped inside because of the winter weather and heavy icing here in Texas and I thought it would be a good time to practice with my new warm/cool Copic marker combination. This is the first piece done using both sets, and I can already see the potential for future pieces.

Tattooed Hippie Pirate Mommas

Tattooed Hippie Pirate Mommas

I just wrapped up this tattoo-inspired, nautical-themed pinup illustration for Tattooed Hippie Pirate Mommas.

THPM

Referenced from photographs of THPM members along with countless image searches for classic tattoos, the piece was sketched digitally for quick changes/approvals.

Next up I printed out blue lines on 11×17 bristol and inked them by hand, then scanned, traced & tweaked it in illustrator to output a final vector file (that you see here).

When they get the t-shirts printed up I’ll be sure and show them off!

Scud: The Disposable Assassin Commission

Scud: The Disposable Assassin Commission

Here’s a character I don’t draw nearly enough, Scud: The Disposable Assassin. This piece was the last in my twitter-based #followme4freeart contest.

The always amiable (and fellow illustrator for hire) Jay King donated his piece to mutual friend Ken Lowery (co-creator of both Fake AP Stylebook and The Variants).

Here’s a side-by-side shot of the original art and 11×17 giclée print for comparison.

Now I want to pick up that giant Scud omnibus that came out not too long ago.

It’s only a ride.

Here’s a commission from late last year that fell through the cracks. The client wanted a simple Bill Hicks portrait but I talked them into letting me do a comic page of my favorite bit. And they loved it.

If you’ve never heard of Bill Hicks you’re missing out.
